Hiking in Finland

Hiking in Finland

Hiking in Finnish Karelia

What’s a unique way to spend your free time in Finland?

If you love Finland, then you definitely love nature. And you tried to merge with it at least once, listen to it and share the eternal ... Me - YES! And I can be your guide through the nature paths of this magnificent country of thousands of lakes. So, what is hiking?

Hiking is a type of sports tourism, the main purpose of which is to overcome a group route through slightly rugged terrain. In our case, this is a hike with health and educational goals. We choose the route that will suit you the best with the length and the level of complexity that does not require special training.

But hiking can also be given a philosophical definition-purification of the mind, unity with nature, exchange of the visible and the invisible. Hiking develops harmony with the outside world and within yourself. We receive invisible energy, which is necessary for us in everyday life. Finland is an ideal place for this. The territory on which I propose to make unforgettable journeys is South Karelia (Etelä – Karjala), which is a real treasure trove of nature discoveries.

You just need to understand that behind each new route there is new feelings, new emotions. And I lived it, I laid each route myself, went through it in a different mood and state of mind. And now I am ready to share with you the love for nature.

“The great goal of every human being is to realize love. Love is not in the others, rather inside, for we awaken it ourselves. But in order to awaken love, it needs others. The universe makes sense only if we have someone to share our feelings with.” Paulo Coelho

I will try to do everything so that you can recover from the piled up every day hustle and bustle by organizing your trip so that you feel at home in the forest. All routes are thought out to the smallest detail and, of course, they are absolutely safe! It is very important for me that when you return to everyday life, you remember about the time spent in nature, and it gives you strength. I will take upon myself all the cares of organizing the hike, right up to the backpack which will contain all the most necessary things for walking, including ecologically clean and wholesome food.

You only need to get to the city of Lappeenranta, Finland, have appropriate clothing for the weather and shoes with non-slip relief soles.

There you can listen to the rapid flow of water and take pictures for memories. Now for the route itself. This hiking tour is a dream for those who like to relax in nature. The route is located in the northern part of Savitaipale, in the area of Kuolimo. This area is a wild forest with different levels of heights and unspoiled nature. The hardest part is the ascent of Mount Luotolahti, which height is about 45 meters from the level of Kuolimo.

The reward for climbing the mountain will be an incredible view of Lake Kuolimo. Lake Kuolimo is still the cleanest in all of South Karelia, and lake trout continues to spawn here. In the desert of the wild landscape you can hear melodies of the lake and the singing of local birds. These places are famous for their beauty.

The air here is so saturated with herbs and plants that you want to stay for a few minutes to merge with nature and enjoy the moment "here and now." You will be fascinated by landscapes as well. I want to consider nature to the smallest detail, so as not to miss anything. We will stop where there is a shed for rest and a specially equipped place for a campfire, I will feed you with lunch and a cup of tasty tea and tell you the secrets of this wonderful place.

There is also a convenient access to the water equipped with a small pier, so those who wish will be able to swim in the clear lake water. All lunch products are organic and very healthy.

If you are allergic to anything, please inform me in advance.

Ylämaa is a small village, which is rightly called the "village of precious stones" — here has long been mined and processed one of the most beautiful stones — spectrolite. Spectrolite is a national stone of Finland. Also, the village of Ylämaa is called the birthplace of the rainbow "power stone". Finns believe that spectrolit enhances the positive energy of a person and makes them strong. And now let's move on to the route itself. There is a saying that, having walked on the ground of the spectrolite, we will strengthen all vital functions and stay young and beautiful...

A walk takes place on a picturesque route where beautiful landscapes are opened. During the hike we will walk through the outskirts of the village, will certainly visit the old mill and the power station, which are located on the rapids of Joutsenkoski.

On the way we will make a halt, where we will make a fire and rest. I will feed you lunch from local organic and tasty products. Those who wish can swim in the cleanest lake.

The nature trail in Ylämaa is located near the village stables. Upon request and by reservation, you can combine a walk with a 2-hour horse ride.

It is also possible to organize long routes on horses with snacks in nature, but this route requires riding experience.

On the way back, if you wish, we can visit the old railway station Pulsa. There is a very cozy country style cafe, where you can taste the most tender cakes and buy souvenirs. And if someone wants to stay for the night, then you can spend the night in one of the houses belonging to the old station Pulsa. Prices for rooms and reservations you can see directly on their website.

If you are allergic to anything, please inform me in advance.

An integral part of the landscapes are lichens of the genus Arctoparmelia and mosses, which are located on bare rocky hills. Tectonic movements during the Ice Age and soil erosion gave the hills unique texture and appearance. In some places, traces of glacier movement and cracks caused by ice are visible.

The route goes around Lepänkanto to Rovastinoja and passes through the Pomper fields. Part of the route is laid out of wooden flooring and passes in a forest with varying relief. The Haikailahti Hiking Trail is located in Kirkkosaari. The route difficulty is medium. Throughout the route, we will be able to enjoy the amazing views of the wildlife of the Saimaa archipelago. The route passes through the forest, alternating with small descents and ascents. The stone placers of the glacier growing in these places leave indelible impressions. The mixed forest of this area reveals magnificent landscapes fanned by the fresh breeze of Lake Saimaa. Those interested can swim in the purest lake water.

Also, this route is suitable for lovers of cross-country or trail running.
